En Zimbabue, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre los adultos de 15 años o más fue del 8,7% en 2022, con una prevalencia mayor en los hombres (18%) en comparación con las mujeres (0,7%). Esto representa una reducción respecto a años anteriores. En 2020, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco era del 9,1% en general, con un 18,8% entre los hombres y un 0,8% entre las mujeres. Se estimó que el número de fumadores de 15 años o más fue de 757,116 en 2022, lo que refleja un ligero descenso respecto a los 753,836 fumadores en 2020 y una disminución significativa frente a los 1,130,394 registrados en 2019. La prevalencia de fumadores diarios adultos en 2017 fue del 11,8%, con una prevalencia del 22,9% entre los hombres y del 1,2% entre las mujeres. La mortalidad atribuida al consumo de tabaco también constituye un importante problema de salud pública, ya que en 2021 se atribuyó al tabaquismo el 6,42% de todas las muertes masculinas y el 2,28% de las muertes femeninas, sumando un total de 8,696 fallecimientos. Estas cifras evidencian los desafíos persistentes que el consumo de tabaco plantea a la salud pública en Zimbabue. La situación requiere esfuerzos coordinados para reducir la prevalencia del tabaquismo y sus impactos en la salud.
