En Sudáfrica, la terapia de sustitución de nicotina (TSN) está permitida y es legal usar, vender y comprar productos de TSN sin necesidad de receta médica. Aunque estos productos no están regulados como medicamentos, se encuentran disponibles en farmacias. Sin embargo, el gobierno no ofrece apoyo financiero para cubrir el costo de la TSN, ya que no está incluida en la lista de medicamentos esenciales del país. El tamaño del mercado NRT (TRN) se estima en 3.3 million €.
