En Seychelles, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más se estimó en 20.7% en 2022, con un 34.6% en hombres y un 5.6% en mujeres. En 2020, la prevalencia total fue del 20.1%, correspondiendo al 33.9% en hombres y al 5.7% en mujeres. El número absoluto de personas fumadoras en 2022 se registró en aproximadamente 15,421 individuos, mientras que en 2021 hubo 14,797 fumadores. La prevalencia de fumadores diarios adultos alcanzó el 16.6%, con un 28.4% en hombres y un 5.2% en mujeres en 2013. Los datos de mortalidad atribuida al tabaquismo en 2021 indican que el 10.53% de todas las muertes en el país se debieron al consumo de tabaco, con un porcentaje mayor en hombres (15.75%) en comparación con las mujeres (3.76%). Esto representa 91 muertes, de las cuales 77 corresponden a hombres y 14 a mujeres. Estas cifras resaltan el desafío continuo que representa el tabaquismo para la salud pública en Seychelles y subrayan la necesidad fundamental de implementar medidas y políticas efectivas para reducir los daños asociados al tabaco en el país.
