El tabaco sin humo tradicional está prohibido en Sri Lanka y la venta de estos productos es ilegal. Sin embargo, a pesar de la prohibición, en 2020 Sri Lanka contaba con aproximadamente 2,1 millones de usuarios actuales de tabaco sin humo tradicional, lo que representa una prevalencia del 13,4% en adultos. Su consumo era considerablemente mayor entre los hombres, con un 23,4%, en comparación con el 4,9% registrado entre las mujeres.
