En Jordania, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos presenta importantes variaciones según el género y el periodo analizado. En 2022, la prevalencia de tabaquismo en adultos se registró en 36.3%, con una prevalencia masculina de 57.8% y femenina de 13.4%. Esto supone un ligero incremento respecto a 2020, cuando la prevalencia general era de 35.2%, con 57.4% entre los hombres y 12.7% entre las mujeres. El número de personas fumadoras en Jordania en 2022 fue de aproximadamente 2,483,982, lo que representa una disminución frente a las 2,775,597 personas fumadoras registradas en 2020. La prevalencia de consumo diario de tabaco en adultos en 2020 fue de 37.3%, con 58.9% en hombres y 15.1% en mujeres. El impacto del tabaquismo queda reflejado en los datos sanitarios de 2021, cuando el consumo de tabaco contribuyó al 9.41% de todas las muertes, con tasas de mortalidad específicas de género de 12.36% para los hombres y 4.83% para las mujeres, lo que resultó en un total de 4,290 muertes relacionadas con el tabaquismo. Estas cifras evidencian el continuo desafío que el consumo de tabaco representa para la salud pública en Jordania, lo que hace necesario implementar intervenciones eficaces de salud pública para reducir los efectos adversos asociados al tabaquismo.
