En Guinea Ecuatorial, no existen datos sobre la prevalencia nacional del consumo de tabaco. Sin embargo, los datos de mortalidad ponen de manifiesto la carga que representa el tabaquismo en el país. La mortalidad atribuida al consumo de tabaco muestra una variación significativa entre 2016 y 2021. Según datos del Global Burden of Disease 2021, en 2021 se registraron 257 muertes anuales atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, lo que supone un aumento respecto a las 160 muertes notificadas en 2016, según el Tobacco Atlas. En 2021, los hombres representaron 198 de las muertes vinculadas al tabaquismo, mientras que las mujeres representaron 59. En comparación, en 2016 se registraron 94 muertes por tabaquismo en hombres y 66 en mujeres. En cuanto al porcentaje de todas las muertes atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, en 2021 fue del 2,45%, ligeramente inferior al 2,69% de 2016. Los porcentajes desglosados por sexo en 2021 fueron de 3,51% para los hombres y 1,22% para las mujeres, lo que supone un aumento respecto a 2016, cuando fueron del 2,9% para los hombres y 2,4% para las mujeres. Estas cifras ponen de relieve el impacto persistente del consumo de tabaco en la salud pública de Guinea Ecuatorial, con un incremento notable en la mortalidad a lo largo de los años.
