En la República Centroafricana, no existen datos sobre la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco. Sin embargo, la información disponible indica que la mortalidad asociada al consumo de tabaco representa un importante problema de salud pública en el país. En 2021, el estudio Global Burden of Disease (GBD) reportó 1,917 muertes atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, de las cuales 281 correspondieron a mujeres y 1,636 a hombres. El porcentaje de todas las muertes atribuible al consumo de tabaco en 2021 se estimó en 2.6%, siendo 0.89% entre las mujeres y 3.88% entre los hombres. En comparación, en 2016 el Tobacco Atlas informó un total superior de 3,093 muertes relacionadas con el consumo de tabaco, entre las cuales 608 eran mujeres y 2,485 eran hombres. El porcentaje de muertes atribuidas al tabaco en 2016 fue de 5.05% en general, con 1.6% entre las mujeres y 5.9% entre los hombres. Aunque estos datos reflejan un descenso tanto en el número absoluto de muertes vinculadas al consumo de tabaco como en su proporción dentro de la mortalidad total entre 2016 y 2021, la carga del tabaquismo sigue siendo elevada en el país, por lo que se requieren esfuerzos más intensificados para reducir su impacto en la salud pública.
