In Antigua and Barbuda, smoking is legal but regulated. Cigarettes are legally sold and may be used by adults, and the importation of cigarettes for trade is permitted. However, cigarettes cannot be purchased online or through vending machines. Health warnings on cigarette packaging are required, and there are legal restrictions on smoking in public places. All forms of tobacco advertising are banned. Cigarettes are not subject to a specific excise tax, but they are subject to a total taxation rate of 15%.
As of 2024, Antigua and Barbuda had approximately 9,000 current adult smokers. In 2021, smoking resulted in an estimated 31 deaths, including 23 among males and 8 among females. Overall, smoking constituted 4.34% of all deaths in the country, including 5.93% of male deaths and 2.49% of female deaths.
