В Южном Судане по состоянию на 2024 год количество людей, которые курят, составило 378 000, однако данные о распространённости курения отсутствуют. Тем не менее, влияние курения на уровень смертности в стране остаётся значительным. В 2021 году курение стало причиной 2 532 случаев смерти: среди них 480 женщин и 2 052 мужчин. Это составляет 2,2% от общего числа смертей в стране, в том числе 1% среди женщин и 3,07% среди мужчин. Для сравнения, в 2016 году было зафиксировано 3 276 смертей, связанных с курением — 827 среди женщин и 2 449 среди мужчин. Тогда доля всех смертей, обусловленных курением, была немного выше и составляла 2,84%, включая 1,2% среди женщин и 3,4% среди мужчин. Эти данные подчёркивают, что курение табака остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения в Южном Судане и показывают, насколько необходимы более эффективные меры для снижения негативных последствий курения.
