В Румынии курение разрешено с определёнными ограничениями. Продажа и импорт сигарет для коммерческих целей являются законными, потребители также могут легально приобретать их через интернет. Однако продажа через торговые автоматы запрещена. На упаковке обязательны предупреждения о вреде здоровью, а минимальный возраст для покупки составляет 18 лет. Существуют также ограничения на курение в общественных местах. По оценкам, количество людей, которые курят в настоящее время, составляло 4,1 миллиона в 2024 году. Превалентность курения среди взрослого населения в 2024 году составила 26%, в том числе среди женщин — 16,6%, среди мужчин — 36,2%. Оценочно, курение табака стало причиной 29 500 смертей в 2021 году, из них 6 200 приходится на женщин и 23 300 — на мужчин. Это свидетельствует о том, что курение стало причиной 8,82% всех случаев смерти в том году — 3,87% среди женщин и 13,38% среди мужчин.
