В Мозамбике имеющиеся данные свидетельствуют о значительной распространённости курения и связанных с ним последствий для здоровья. Согласно докладу Global Burden of Disease за 2021 год, курение табака стало причиной 7 363 смертей, что составляет 2,4% от общего числа смертей в стране. Гендерная структура показывает, что среди мужчин было зарегистрировано 6 111 таких случаев (3,62% всех мужских смертей), а среди женщин — 1 252 случая (0,91% всех женских смертей). Сравнивая эти показатели с данными за 2016 год, когда количество смертей, связанных с курением, составляло 10 058 (4,31% от всех смертей), можно отметить снижение ежегодных показателей. Распространённость курения среди взрослых в 2024 году составила 7%, причём доля мужчин, которые курят, была значительно выше (13%), чем среди женщин (1,6%). При этом наблюдается тенденция к снижению по сравнению с 2019 годом, когда общий уровень курения составлял 13,9% (среди мужчин — 23,9%, среди женщин — 3,9%). В 2024 году в стране насчитывалось примерно 1,3 миллиона взрослых, которые курят, по сравнению с 2 268 470 в 2019 году. В 2017 году ежедневная распространённость курения среди взрослых составляла 13,2% (среди мужчин — 23,5%, среди женщин — 3,7%). Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющуюся проблему для системы здравоохранения Мозамбика, несмотря на некоторое снижение распространённости курения и показателей смертности в последние годы.
