W Mozambiku dostępne dane wskazują na znaczną skalę palenia tytoniu oraz związane z tym negatywne skutki zdrowotne. Z raportu Global Burden of Disease za 2021 rok wynika, że liczba zgonów przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu wyniosła 7 363, co stanowi 2,4% wszystkich zgonów w kraju. Dane według płci pokazują, że 6 111 z tych zgonów dotyczyło mężczyzn, co odpowiada 3,62% wszystkich zgonów wśród mężczyzn, natomiast 1 252 zgony przypadły na kobiety, co stanowi 0,91% wszystkich zgonów wśród kobiet. W porównaniu z wcześniejszymi danymi z 2016 roku widać spadek rocznej liczby zgonów związanych z paleniem, która wcześniej wynosiła 10 058, obejmując 4,31% wszystkich zgonów. Rozpowszechnienie palenia wśród dorosłych w 2020 roku wynosiło 12,2%, przy czym odsetek palaczy był zdecydowanie wyższy wśród mężczyzn – 22,2%, w porównaniu do 3,2% wśród kobiet. Trend ten wskazuje na spadek w stosunku do 2019 roku, kiedy ogólna częstość występowania palenia wynosiła 13,9%, w tym 23,9% wśród mężczyzn i 3,9% wśród kobiet. Liczba palaczy w 2020 roku została oszacowana na około 2 041 242 osoby, w porównaniu do 2 268 470 w roku 2019. W 2017 roku codziennie paliło 13,2% dorosłych, w tym 23,5% mężczyzn i 3,7% kobiet. Dane te podkreślają, że mimo niewielkiego spadku częstości palenia i liczby zgonów w ostatnich latach, palenie tytoniu pozostaje istotnym wyzwaniem zdrowotnym w Mozambiku.
