В Ливии курение табака по-прежнему остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения. По оценкам, в 2024 году число людей, которые в настоящий момент курят, составляло 1,2 миллиона человек. Это соответствует распространённости курения среди взрослого населения на уровне 23,3% в целом, среди мужчин — 45,8%, среди женщин — 0,2%. В 2021 году курение табака стало причиной 4 776 смертей, из которых 4 016 — среди мужчин и 760 — среди женщин. Эти показатели составили 10,29% всех случаев смерти (14,67% смертей среди мужчин и 3,99% — среди женщин были связаны с курением). По сравнению с 2016 годом, когда от причин, связанных с курением, умерли 3 620 человек (3 130 мужчин и 490 женщин), отмечается заметный рост общего числа таких смертей. Доля всех случаев смерти, связанная с курением табака, снизилась с 18,12% в 2016 году до 10,29% в 2021 году. Эти данные подчёркивают острую необходимость дальнейших мер и вмешательств в области общественного здравоохранения, а также совершенствования регулирования для снижения вредного влияния курения табака на здоровье населения Ливии.
