По состоянию на 2024 год распространённость курения табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше на Коморах составила 6,5%, что соответствует абсолютному количеству в 35 000 человек. Преобладание курения среди мужчин составило 21,7%, тогда как среди женщин этот показатель был только 2%. Для сравнения, согласно более ранним данным за 2020 год, общая распространённость текущего курения среди взрослых была немного ниже и составляла 11,8%: среди мужчин — 21,4%, среди женщин — 2,3%. Абсолютное количество людей, которые курят табак, в 2022 году оценивалось в 64 103 человека, что немного выше, чем в 2020 году (60 350). Для справки, в 2017 году ежедневное потребление табака среди взрослых составляло 11,9%: среди мужчин — 20%, среди женщин — 3,7%. Согласно данным за 2021 год, на курение табака пришлось 4,26% всех смертей в стране; из них 6,12% среди мужчин и 2,19% среди женщин были связаны с курением. Это свидетельствует о снижении по сравнению с предыдущими годами, например в 2016 году доля смертей среди мужчин из-за курения составляла 7,1%. В 2021 году число смертей, связанных с курением, составило 250, из которых 189 — мужчины и 61 — женщины. African Region - Increasing Daily Tobacco Prevalence Trends (Male and Female)

- No Fire, No Smoke: The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction

This figure, using WHO data, shows the steep gradient of increases in smoking prevalence estimates in specific African countries, where the projected increases (both sexes) in daily smoking are 5 percent and higher.

In countries that have experienced steep falls in smoking prevalence over the years, the graphs have begun to level off, for example in Australia, suggesting there remains a substantial number of people who, for whatever reason, are determined to carry on smoking. The WHO trend data to 2025 predicts only very modest falls in smoking levels in several countries and predicts some rapid increases, mainly in Africa, the Middle East, some parts of Eastern Europe and republics of the former Soviet Union. Some of the more extreme examples include Cameroon (from 14 percent to 43 percent); Republic of Congo (from 14 percent to 48 percent) and Bahrain (from 25 percent to 60 percent).
