En 2022, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más en Comoras se reportó en 11,9%, con una marcada diferencia entre géneros: la prevalencia en hombres fue de 21,7%, mientras que en mujeres fue de 2%. Esto contrasta con datos anteriores de 2020, cuando la prevalencia general entre adultos era ligeramente menor, con un 11,8%, 21,4% en hombres y 2,3% en mujeres. En 2022, se estimaba que el número absoluto de personas fumadoras era de 64.103, lo que representa un leve aumento respecto a las 60.350 registradas en 2020. En comparación, la prevalencia diaria de consumo de tabaco en adultos en 2017 fue del 11,9%, con un 20% en hombres y un 3,7% en mujeres. En cuanto a la mortalidad relacionada con el tabaquismo, datos de 2021 indican que el 4,26% de todas las muertes en Comoras fueron atribuibles al consumo de tabaco. Las cifras desglosadas por género muestran que el 6,12% de los hombres y el 2,19% de las mujeres fallecieron a causa del tabaco en 2021, lo que representa una disminución respecto a años anteriores como 2016, cuando el porcentaje de muertes por tabaquismo en hombres fue del 7,1%. El número total de muertes atribuibles al tabaco en 2021 fue de 250, de las cuales 189 correspondieron a hombres y 61 a mujeres. Estos datos evidencian el importante impacto que tiene el consumo de tabaco en la salud de la población del país.
