В Бурунди распространённость употребления табака среди взрослого населения остаётся значительной. По состоянию на 2024 год около 544 000 взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше регулярно курят табачные изделия, что составляет 7,3% взрослого населения. Среди мужчин этот показатель составил 12,9%, а среди женщин существенно ниже — 1,8%. Для сравнения, в 2020 году распространённость курения среди мужчин составляла 13,5%, среди женщин — 1,9%, что свидетельствует о небольшом снижении. В 2021 году распространённость ежедневного употребления табака среди взрослых составляла 8%, при этом среди мужчин — 15,8%, среди женщин — 0,5%. Влияние курения на здоровье в стране остаётся значимым: в 2021 году 2 007 случаев смерти были связаны с курением табака, в том числе 1 714 среди мужчин и 293 среди женщин. Это составило 2,06% от общего числа смертей в стране, причём доля среди мужчин была выше и достигла 3,04%, по сравнению с 0,72% среди женщин. Эти данные подчёркивают значительный вклад курения табака в смертность и демонстрируют гендерные различия в Бурунди.
