В Малайзии продажа, курение и импорт сигарет разрешены законом, однако их покупка через торговые автоматы или онлайн запрещена. Обязательными являются предупреждения о вреде для здоровья на упаковке, но законодательство не устанавливает ограничений на курение в общественных местах. Общая ставка налогообложения табачных изделий составляет 0,52. Курят по-прежнему многие: по данным на 2024 год насчитывается около 4,9 миллиона взрослых, употребляющих табачные изделия, что составляет 17,9% среди взрослого населения, включая 0,5% женщин и 33,6% мужчин. В 2021 году число смертей, связанных с курением, составило примерно 24 100 человек — это 10,75% всех смертей, из них 15,03% среди мужчин и 4,44% среди женщин.
