En Malasia, los cigarrillos se venden, consumen e importan legalmente, pero está prohibida su compra en máquinas expendedoras o por internet. Es obligatorio que los envases incluyan advertencias sanitarias, aunque no existen restricciones legales para fumar en lugares públicos. La tasa total de impuestos sobre el tabaco es de 0.52. El consumo de tabaco sigue siendo elevado, con unos 5.2 millones de fumadores registrados en 2022, lo que equivale a un 20.9% de prevalencia entre adultos: 0.5% en mujeres y 40.8% en hombres. En 2021, las muertes atribuidas al consumo de tabaco fueron aproximadamente 24,100, lo que representa el 10.75% de todos los fallecimientos, con un 15.03% registrados entre los hombres y un 4.44% entre las mujeres.
