Programme
Part 1. Empowering communities to address smoking among women
9:30 - 11:00 (Warsaw time)
This session brings together female community leaders from Central Asia who are at the forefront of HIV and harm reduction responses. Through real-world examples from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, the session will explore the often-overlooked issue of smoking among women and examine how tobacco use intersects with gender, stigma, and healthcare barriers.
Part 2. Confronting tuberculosis and smoking together
11:30 - 13:00 (Warsaw time)
This session explores the critical but often under-recognised link between smoking and tuberculosis, bringing together activists and experts with lived and professional experience. Drawing on global and EECA perspectives, speakers will highlight how tobacco use worsens treatment outcomes and contributes to preventable mortality. Through examples of community-led representation, communication and policy analysis, the session will examine practical approaches to integrating tobacco harm reduction into TB responses – strengthening prevention, improving access to treatment, and supporting more effective, people-centred lung health strategies.
