W Tunezji odsetek osób palących tytoń wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i więcej wyniósł w 2022 roku 20,1%, przy czym widoczna jest znaczna różnica między płciami; 39,7% dorosłych mężczyzn oraz 1,6% dorosłych kobiet deklarowało palenie papierosów. Dane te wskazują na nieznaczny spadek ogólnej częstości palenia w porównaniu z 2020 rokiem, gdy wynosiła ona 20,9%, oraz wyraźniejszy spadek w stosunku do 2019 roku, gdy wskaźnik ten wynosił 22,4%. Liczba palaczy również zmniejszała się w ostatnich latach – z 1 964 464 w 2019 roku do 1 802 752 w 2022 roku. Śmiertelność związana z paleniem tytoniu pozostaje w Tunezji znaczącym problemem; w 2021 roku odpowiadała za 10,65% wszystkich zgonów, w tym wskaźnik zgonów wynosił 15,28% wśród mężczyzn i 3,86% wśród kobiet. W ujęciu bezwzględnym liczbę zgonów spowodowanych paleniem w 2021 roku szacuje się na 11 047, z czego 9 421 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 1 625 kobiet. Statystyki te potwierdzają, że palenie tytoniu nadal stanowi istotne wyzwanie dla zdrowia publicznego w Tunezji, mimo niewielkiej poprawy obserwowanej w ostatnich latach.
