Palenie tytoniu na Węgrzech jest dozwolone z pewnymi ograniczeniami. Na opakowaniach wyrobów tytoniowych wymagane są ostrzeżenia zdrowotne, sprzedaż jest dozwolona wyłącznie osobom, które ukończyły 18 lat, a palenie jest zabronione w miejscach publicznych. Zakup tych produktów przez internet oraz w automatach nie jest legalny. Całkowita stawka podatku wynosi 72%. W 2023 roku liczba obecnych palaczy w kraju wynosiła około 2,1 miliona. Odsetek dorosłych osób palących tytoń wynosił 26%, przy czym częściej palili mężczyźni (34,7%) niż kobiety (24,5%) w 2022 roku. Liczba codziennych palaczy również wynosiła 2,1 miliona, a odsetek dorosłych codziennie palących tytoń w 2023 roku wynosił 22,1%. Używanie tytoniu pozostaje istotną przyczyną zgonów na Węgrzech – w 2021 roku odpowiadało szacunkowo za 17 000 zgonów, w tym 5 200 wśród kobiet i 11 800 wśród mężczyzn. Oznacza to, że palenie tytoniu stanowiło 11,01% wszystkich zgonów w tym okresie, w tym 6,63% zgonów kobiet oraz 15,47% zgonów mężczyzn.
