W 2022 roku odsetek osób palących tytoń wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i więcej w Burkina Faso szacowano na 10%, przy wyraźnych różnicach między płciami. Wśród mężczyzn odsetek palących był znacznie wyższy i wynosił 18%, natomiast wśród kobiet utrzymywał się na dużo niższym poziomie – 2,2%. W liczbach bezwzględnych oznacza to około 1 190 136 palaczy. Dla porównania, w 2020 roku ogólna częstość palenia wynosiła nieco więcej – 10,5%, przy wskaźniku wśród mężczyzn wynoszącym 19,1%, a wśród kobiet 2,1%. W 2017 roku odsetek dorosłych palących codziennie wynosił 9,9%, z czego 18,2% stanowili mężczyźni, a 2,2% kobiety. Dane wskazują również, że palenie tytoniu było istotnym czynnikiem przyczyniającym się do zgonów – w 2021 roku odnotowano 3 421 zgonów przypisywanych paleniu, co stanowiło 1,57% wszystkich zgonów w kraju. Spośród nich 2 520 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 900 kobiet, co potwierdza różnice między płciami, jeśli chodzi o śmiertelność związaną z paleniem. Odsetek wszystkich zgonów przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu w 2021 roku wynosił 2,09% wśród mężczyzn i 0,92% wśród kobiet.
