En Taiwán, fumar está permitido con ciertas restricciones. La venta de cigarrillos está autorizada, pero no se pueden comprar en línea ni mediante máquinas expendedoras. Los cigarrillos pueden importarse para fines comerciales con una licencia de importación. Además, es obligatorio que los empaques incluyan advertencias sanitarias y la edad mínima legal para la venta de cigarrillos es de 20 años. No existen restricciones legales para fumar en lugares públicos. En 2020, se estimó que había 2.7 millones de fumadores actuales en Taiwán, con una prevalencia de tabaquismo en adultos del 13.1%. Entre los hombres, la prevalencia fue del 23.1%, y entre las mujeres, del 2.9%. En ese mismo año, se estimó que 25.4 mil muertes fueron atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, de las cuales 22.9 mil correspondieron a hombres y 2.5 mil a mujeres. Esto indica que el tabaquismo representó el 13.79% de todas las muertes, estando relacionado con el 21.26% de las muertes masculinas y el 3.25% de las muertes femeninas en el país.
