Los datos de 2022 indican que el consumo de tabaco en Omán sigue representando un importante problema de salud pública. Se reportó que 400,337 personas de 15 años o más eran fumadoras en el país. La prevalencia total de consumo de tabaco en adultos en ese mismo año fue de 9.9%, con una marcada diferencia entre géneros: 15.7% en hombres frente a solo 0.3% en mujeres. Esta brecha de género se ha mantenido constante en los últimos años. En cuanto a la mortalidad, el consumo de tabaco fue responsable de 756 muertes en 2021, lo que corresponde al 4.45% de todas las muertes registradas en el país. Los fallecimientos relacionados con el consumo de tabaco fueron significativamente más altos en hombres, con 645 casos, en comparación con 111 casos en mujeres. El porcentaje de todas las muertes atribuible al consumo de tabaco fue de 5.53% en hombres y 2.08% en mujeres en ese mismo año. En 2017, la prevalencia de consumo diario de tabaco en adultos fue de 6.5%, con un 12.3% en hombres y un 0.3% en mujeres. Estas cifras muestran los desafíos persistentes que enfrenta Omán para reducir la tasa de consumo de tabaco y sus consecuencias en la salud.
