En Malaui, datos recientes de 2022 indican que la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más fue del 6.3%. Esta cifra representa una disminución respecto al 7.2% registrado en 2020 y una reducción adicional frente al 11% observado en 2019. La prevalencia de consumo entre los hombres fue considerablemente más alta, situándose en 12.2%, levemente inferior al 13.1% de 2020 y al 18.2% de 2019. En contraste, la prevalencia entre las mujeres fue mucho menor, con un 0.9% en 2022, por debajo del 1.6% de 2020 y del 3.7% reportado en 2019. El número total de personas que fuman en Malaui se estimó en aproximadamente 705,688 en 2022, lo que también evidencia una tendencia a la baja en comparación con los 751,519 fumadores de 2020 y más de un millón registrados en 2019. En 2017, la prevalencia diaria de consumo de tabaco entre adultos fue de 11%, con una prevalencia de 19.2% en hombres y 3% en mujeres.
