En Marruecos, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco en 2022 entre adultos de 15 años o más muestra diferencias significativas entre géneros. La tasa de consumo entre los hombres fue considerablemente más alta, con un 25,3%, en comparación con solo un 1% entre las mujeres. La prevalencia total de consumo de tabaco en la población adulta fue del 13,1%. En ese mismo año, se estimó que el número de fumadores en Marruecos alcanzaba aproximadamente 3.568.639 personas. En comparación, los datos de 2020 reflejaban una prevalencia general ligeramente inferior, del 12,1%, con un 24% de hombres y un 0,7% de mujeres. La prevalencia del consumo diario de tabaco en adultos en 2018 fue del 11,6%, con un 22,3% en hombres y un 1,2% en mujeres. En 2021, la mortalidad atribuida al consumo de tabaco fue responsable de 21.574 muertes en total, de las cuales 17.095 correspondieron a hombres y 4.479 a mujeres. Estas cifras representan el 7,54% del total de fallecimientos, con tasas específicas del 10,91% para los hombres y del 3,46% para las mujeres. Asimismo, en 2018, la prevalencia del consumo diario de tabaco en adultos se estimaba en un 11,6%, con un 22,3% entre los hombres y un 1,2% entre las mujeres. Estos datos ponen de manifiesto los retos persistentes para la salud pública que representa el consumo de tabaco en Marruecos, lo que hace necesario implementar intervenciones y políticas dirigidas para abordar estas disparidades y reducir los daños asociados al tabaco.
