En Camboya, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos sigue siendo un importante problema de salud pública. Según estimaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) de 2022, la prevalencia bruta de fumadores entre personas de 15 años o más fue del 14,1%. Desglosado por género, el 27,3% de los hombres y el 1,6% de las mujeres fueron reportados como fumadores. Esto representa una ligera disminución entre los hombres respecto al 28,0% en 2020 y un descenso más notable desde el 32,3% registrado en 2019. El número total de fumadores de tabaco en 2022 fue aproximadamente 1.639.527, una reducción frente a los 1.897.322 contabilizados en 2019. En 2017, la prevalencia de consumo diario de tabaco entre adultos fue del 15,5%, con una prevalencia del 30,4% en hombres y del 1,9% en mujeres. El impacto en la salud asociado al consumo de tabaco en Camboya es considerable. En 2021, el 13,43% de todas las muertes se atribuyeron al tabaquismo, incluyendo el 20,01% de todas las muertes masculinas y el 6,23% de todas las muertes femeninas en el país. En términos absolutos, en 2021 el número total de muertes relacionadas con el consumo de tabaco fue de 17.306, de las cuales 13.474 correspondieron a hombres y 3.832 a mujeres. Estas cifras ponen de manifiesto el desafío permanente que enfrenta Camboya para reducir el consumo de tabaco y sus consecuencias en la salud.
