En Camerún, la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más se estimó en 4,3% en 2022, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Esto representa una ligera disminución frente al 5% registrado en 2020 y al 7,5% en 2019. Los datos desglosados por género para 2022 indican que la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco fue considerablemente mayor en hombres, con un 8,4%, en comparación con el 0,3% observado en mujeres. El número de personas fumadoras de tabaco se reportó en 674,796 en 2022, cifra inferior a las 738,546 de 2020 y a las 1,084,963 de 2019. En 2017, la prevalencia diaria de consumo de tabaco en adultos fue de 4,6%, con un 9,1% entre hombres y un 0,5% entre mujeres. Los datos sobre mortalidad atribuible al consumo de tabaco correspondientes a 2021 señalan que esta práctica fue responsable del 1,74% de todas las muertes en Camerún, lo que equivale a 4,532 fallecimientos. Por género, en 2021 las muertes asociadas al tabaquismo representaron el 2,5% del total de fallecimientos entre hombres y el 0,75% entre mujeres.
