En 2022, se estimaba que en Argentina había 7,9 millones de fumadores actuales, con una prevalencia de tabaquismo en adultos del 23,1%. Entre los hombres adultos, la prevalencia fue del 28,2%, mientras que entre las mujeres adultas fue del 18,1%. La cantidad de fumadores diarios rondaba los 5,2 millones. Según datos de 2017, la prevalencia de tabaquismo diario en adultos era del 16,3%, con un 20,6% en hombres y un 12,3% en mujeres. Fumar en Argentina es legal y está regulado como producto de tabaco; el consumo y la venta de cigarrillos son legales, así como su compra por internet. Sin embargo, no está permitido adquirir cigarrillos en máquinas expendedoras. La importación de cigarrillos se permite tanto para uso personal como para la venta comercial, con ciertas restricciones. La edad mínima legal para comprar cigarrillos es de 18 años, y existen limitaciones legales para fumar en espacios públicos. En Argentina, los cigarrillos están gravados con una tasa general de impuestos del 76%.
