В Сербии курение разрешено и регулируется рядом мер. Согласно этим правилам, продажа и покупка сигарет, включая онлайн-продажи, являются законными, однако приобретение сигарет через торговые автоматы запрещено. Импорт сигарет для торговли допускается только при наличии импортной лицензии. Упаковка сигарет должна содержать предупреждения о вреде для здоровья, чтобы информировать потребителей о рисках, связанных с курением. Кроме того, минимальный возраст для покупки табачных изделий, включая сигареты, установлен на уровне 18 лет. Законодательством предусмотрены ограничения на курение в общественных местах с целью защиты окружающих от воздействия пассивного курения. Общая ставка налогообложения на сигареты в Сербии составляет 75%. Что касается распространённости курения, данные за 2024 год показывают, что примерно 2,1 миллиона человек курят. Это свидетельствует о том, что распространённость курения среди взрослых составила 36,4%. Среди совершеннолетних женщин распространённость курения составила 35,6%, а среди мужчин — 37,3%. Статистика также отражает значительный вклад курения в смертность в Сербии. В 2021 году, по оценкам, курение стало причиной 17 700 случаев смерти, включая 12 400 смертей среди мужчин и 5 400 среди женщин. Таким образом, смертность от причин, связанных с курением, составила 11,89% от общего числа смертей в стране в 2021 году. При этом у мужчин наблюдается более высокая доля — на долю курения пришлось 16,3% всех смертей, а у женщин — 7,33%. Эти данные подчёркивают значительный вклад курения в бремя общественного здравоохранения в Сербии.
