В Мьянме курение табака остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения. По данным Всемирной организации здравоохранения (ВОЗ), распространённость курения среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше в 2024 году составила 24,2%, тогда как в 2020 году этот показатель был равен 19,7%. Среди мужчин в 2024 году распространённость курения была значительно выше (36,5%) по сравнению с женщинами (3,1%), что свидетельствует о сохраняющемся гендерном неравенстве в уровне потребления табака. Общее число людей, которые курят, в 2024 году оценивалось примерно в 7,5 миллиона, что немного меньше по сравнению с 7,8 миллиона в 2020 году. Для справки, в 2017 году уровень ежедневного курения среди взрослых составлял 16,2%, при этом среди мужчин он достигал 28,2%, а среди женщин — 5,1%. Данные за 2021 год показывают, что 11,17% всех случаев смерти в стране были связаны с курением табака, включая 40 450 случаев среди мужчин и 16 391 — среди женщин, что в процентном выражении составляет 14,48% среди мужчин и 7,14% среди женщин. Эти данные подчёркивают необходимость дальнейших усилий в области общественного здравоохранения по борьбе с курением табака в Мьянме.
