По состоянию на 2021 год в Индии насчитывалось примерно 215,9 миллиона взрослых, которые в настоящее время употребляют традиционные некурительные табачные изделия, что составляет распространённость среди взрослых на уровне 21,4%. Среди мужчин таких было существенно больше — 29,6%, тогда как среди женщин — 12,8%. Ежедневное употребление традиционных некурительных табачных изделий отмечали 18,2% взрослых, включая 25,1% мужчин и 11,1% женщин. С точки зрения регулирования, традиционные некурительные табачные изделия разрешены и регулируются как табачная продукция, их продажа и употребление в Индии легальны, а также допускается покупка через интернет. Вместе с тем, в стране введён запрет на любую рекламу табака, упаковка должна содержать предупредительные надписи о вреде для здоровья, а минимальный возраст для продажи установлен на уровне 18 лет.
