В Боснии и Герцеговине курить разрешено, но с определёнными ограничениями. Продажа сигарет является законной, также допускается их покупка онлайн и через торговые автоматы. Импорт сигарет для коммерческих целей возможен при наличии соответствующей лицензии. Полного запрета на рекламу нет. Медицинские предупреждения на упаковке сигарет не обязательны, а минимальный возраст для приобретения табачных изделий не установлен. Кроме того, отсутствуют ограничения на курение в общественных местах. Тем не менее, на сигареты действует совокупная налоговая ставка в размере 84%. В 2024 году в стране насчитывалось примерно 939 000 взрослых, которые курят, что составляет 35,3% взрослого населения. Среди мужчин доля курящих составляла 42,2%, а среди женщин — 29,1%. Для сравнения, в 2017 году было около 1 миллиона тех, кто курил ежедневно: распространённость ежедневного потребления табака среди взрослых составляла 32%. Среди мужчин этот показатель достигал 40,2%, а среди женщин — 23,9%. Согласно данным за 2021 год, курение привело к 6700 случаям смертей, из которых 4900 — среди мужчин и 1800 — среди женщин. Таким образом, табакокурение стало причиной 14,42% всех смертей в стране — 20,16% смертей среди мужчин и 8,16% среди женщин в 2021 году.
