Na podstawie najnowszych dostępnych danych z badania przeprowadzonego w 2003 roku, rozpowszechnienie codziennego palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych w Syrii wynosiło 24,7% w całej populacji, przy czym odsetek ten był znacznie wyższy wśród mężczyzn (48%) niż wśród kobiet (8,9%). W 2021 roku wpływ palenia tytoniu na zdrowie publiczne w Syrii był znaczący. Według danych odnotowano łącznie 13 133 zgony przypisywane paleniu tytoniu, co stanowiło około 12,55% wszystkich zgonów w kraju. Wśród tych przypadków było 10 984 zgony wśród mężczyzn, co odpowiadało 17,37% wszystkich zgonów mężczyzn, oraz 2 149 zgonów wśród kobiet, co stanowiło 5,19% wszystkich zgonów kobiet. Te statystyki wyraźnie pokazują istotne różnice między płciami w umieralności związanej z paleniem tytoniu. Dla porównania, całkowita liczba zgonów powiązanych z paleniem w 2016 roku wynosiła 9 447, czyli 8,7% wszystkich zgonów. Wskazuje to na wzrost zarówno bezwzględnej liczby, jak i odsetka zgonów przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu na przestrzeni lat. Dane te podkreślają utrzymujące się wyzwania zdrowia publicznego związane z paleniem tytoniu w Syrii oraz potrzebę ukierunkowanych działań interwencyjnych.
