W Libii palenie tytoniu wciąż stanowi poważne wyzwanie dla zdrowia publicznego. W 2021 roku palenie tytoniu było przyczyną 4 776 zgonów w kraju, z czego 4 016 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 760 kobiet. Te zgony stanowiły 10,29% wszystkich przypadków śmiertelnych, przy czym na palenie przypadało 14,67% zgonów wśród mężczyzn i 3,99% wśród kobiet. W porównaniu z rokiem 2016, kiedy odnotowano łącznie 3 620 zgonów związanych z paleniem (w tym 3 130 mężczyzn i 490 kobiet), widoczny jest zauważalny wzrost ogólnej liczby zgonów związanych z paleniem. Jednocześnie odsetek wszystkich zgonów przypisywanych paleniu tytoniu spadł z 18,12% w 2016 roku do 10,29% w 2021 roku. Odsetek dorosłych codziennie palących w 2009 roku wynosił 47,6% wśród mężczyzn i 0,1% wśród kobiet, co wskazuje na znacznie wyższy poziom palenia w populacji męskiej. Dane te podkreślają pilną potrzebę dalszych interwencji w zakresie zdrowia publicznego oraz wprowadzania regulacji mających na celu ograniczenie szkodliwego wpływu palenia tytoniu na zdrowie mieszkańców Libii.
