W 2022 roku rozpowszechnienie palenia tytoniu wśród dorosłych w Egipcie było znaczące i wynosiło ogółem 24,7% w grupie osób w wieku 15 lat i starszych. Wskaźnik ten był zdecydowanie wyższy wśród mężczyzn – 48,9%, podczas gdy wśród kobiet wynosił jedynie 0,3%. Łączna liczba palaczy w Egipcie w 2022 roku szacowana była na około 16 894 895 osób. Dla porównania, w 2020 roku odsetek palących dorosłych był nieco niższy i wynosił 21,1%, przy czym palenie dotyczyło 41,8% mężczyzn oraz 0,3% kobiet. W 2019 roku wskaźnik ten wynosił ogółem 21,4%, z czego 42,3% stanowili mężczyźni, a 0,4% kobiety. W 2017 roku codzienne palenie tytoniu deklarowało 18,4% dorosłych, w tym 35,3% mężczyzn i 0,4% kobiet. Zgony związane z paleniem tytoniu w 2021 roku stanowiły 11% wszystkich zgonów i wyniosły 78 337, z czego 66 464 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 11 873 kobiet. Oznacza to, że w 2021 roku udział zgonów spowodowanych paleniem tytoniu wynosił 15,6% wśród mężczyzn oraz 4,16% wśród kobiet. Dane te podkreślają, że palenie tytoniu stanowi poważne wyzwanie dla zdrowia publicznego w Egipcie i wymaga dalszych działań na rzecz ograniczenia jego negatywnego wpływu na zdrowie społeczeństwa.
