W Wybrzeżu Kości Słoniowej palenie tytoniu wśród dorosłych w wieku 15 lat i więcej pozostaje istotnym problemem zdrowia publicznego. W 2022 roku odsetek dorosłych palących tytoń wynosił 8,5%, przy znaczącej różnicy między płciami: paliło 16,4% mężczyzn i 0,5% kobiet. Jest to niewielki spadek w porównaniu z rokiem 2020, gdy odsetek ten wynosił 9,4% ogółem, 18% wśród mężczyzn i 0,6% wśród kobiet. Liczbę palaczy tytoniu w 2022 roku oszacowano na 1 333 795, co oznacza spadek w porównaniu do 1 393 511 w 2020 roku oraz 1 804 938 w 2019 roku. W 2017 roku codzienne palenie tytoniu dotyczyło 26,2% mężczyzn i 1,7% kobiet. Śmiertelność związana z używaniem tytoniu nadal stanowi poważny problem w kraju – w 2021 roku odnotowano 5 409 zgonów powiązanych z paleniem, co stanowiło 2,59% wszystkich zgonów; z tego 4 399 dotyczyło mężczyzn, a 1 011 kobiet, co wskazuje na odmienne skutki zdrowotne w zależności od płci. African Region - Increasing Daily Tobacco Prevalence Trends (Male and Female)

- No Fire, No Smoke: The Global State of Tobacco Harm Reduction

This figure, using WHO data, shows the steep gradient of increases in smoking prevalence estimates in specific African countries, where the projected increases (both sexes) in daily smoking are 5 percent and higher.

In countries that have experienced steep falls in smoking prevalence over the years, the graphs have begun to level off, for example in Australia, suggesting there remains a substantial number of people who, for whatever reason, are determined to carry on smoking. The WHO trend data to 2025 predicts only very modest falls in smoking levels in several countries and predicts some rapid increases, mainly in Africa, the Middle East, some parts of Eastern Europe and republics of the former Soviet Union. Some of the more extreme examples include Cameroon (from 14 percent to 43 percent); Republic of Congo (from 14 percent to 48 percent) and Bahrain (from 25 percent to 60 percent).
