W 2022 roku liczba palaczy w Albanii została oszacowana na 525,5 tysiąca, a odsetek palących dorosłych wyniósł 22,4%. Wśród dorosłych kobiet odsetek palących wyniósł 6,6%, natomiast wśród dorosłych mężczyzn 38,7%. Liczbę osób palących codziennie oszacowano na 592 tysiące, co przekłada się na 23% dorosłych, przy czym codzienne palenie częściej występowało u mężczyzn (41%) niż u kobiet (5,6%). Według danych z 2021 roku palenie papierosów było przyczyną około 4700 zgonów rocznie w Albanii – z tego 3,7 tysiąca stanowili mężczyźni, a 1 tysiąc kobiety. Oznacza to, że palenie odpowiadało za 15,75% wszystkich rocznych zgonów, w tym za 22,16% zgonów mężczyzn i 7,78% zgonów kobiet. Palenie w Albanii jest dozwolone prawnie i regulowane jako wyrobów tytoniowych; dozwolone jest używanie i sprzedaż papierosów, w tym również zakup online, z wyjątkiem automatów sprzedających, z których zakup papierosów jest zabroniony. Minimalny wiek uprawniający do zakupu papierosów to 18 lat. Sprzedaż i import papierosów, zarówno do użytku własnego, jak i handlowego, są legalne, pod pewnymi ograniczeniami. Dodatkowo opakowania papierosów muszą zawierać ostrzeżenia zdrowotne. Obowiązuje zakaz wszelkiej reklamy papierosów, a palenie jest objęte prawnymi ograniczeniami w miejscach publicznych. Papierosy w Albanii są objęte podatkiem w wysokości 66,67%.
