La prevalencia del consumo diario de tabaco entre adultos en Siria, según los datos de la última encuesta disponible realizada en 2003, se estimó en un 24.7% de la población general, con una prevalencia notablemente mayor en los hombres (48%) en comparación con las mujeres (8.9%). En 2021, el impacto del consumo de tabaco en la salud pública en Siria fue considerable. Según los datos, se registraron un total de 13,133 muertes atribuibles al consumo de tabaco, lo que representa aproximadamente el 12.55% de todas las muertes en el país. De ese total, 10,984 muertes correspondieron a hombres, lo cual equivale al 17.37% del total de muertes masculinas, y 2,149 a mujeres, lo que constituye el 5.19% de las muertes femeninas. Estas estadísticas ponen de manifiesto una disparidad significativa entre hombres y mujeres en cuanto a la mortalidad relacionada con el tabaco. En comparación, el número total de muertes asociadas al consumo de tabaco en 2016 fue de 9,447, lo que corresponde al 8.7% de todas las muertes, lo que indica un aumento tanto en el número absoluto como en el porcentaje de decesos atribuibles al consumo de tabaco a lo largo de los años.
