En 2021, la prevalencia de tabaquismo en mujeres adultas en Nicaragua fue del 5.5%. Ese mismo año, se estimó que 1,300 muertes se atribuyeron al consumo de tabaco; de estas, 956 correspondieron a hombres y 324 a mujeres. Esto representa el 3.33% del total de muertes en el país durante 2021, incluyendo el 4.33% de los fallecimientos masculinos y el 1.99% de los femeninos. En Nicaragua, el consumo de cigarrillos es legal, al igual que su venta y uso, pero está prohibida la compra de cigarrillos en máquinas expendedoras o por internet. La edad mínima legal para la compra de cigarrillos es de 18 años. Además, es obligatorio incluir advertencias sanitarias en los empaques de cigarrillos. La importación de cigarrillos está permitida para fines comerciales, aunque con ciertas restricciones, y el consumo de cigarrillos está sujeto a limitaciones legales en espacios públicos. Los productos de tabaco en forma de cigarrillos están sujetos a una tasa general de impuestos del 76%.
