En Guyana, los datos de 2022 indican que la prevalencia del consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más fue del 10,5%. Esta cifra fue considerablemente mayor en los hombres, con un 19,3%, en comparación con las mujeres, que registraron un 2,2%. Se estima que el número total de personas fumadoras en Guyana fue de 59,148. Esto representa una disminución frente a los 65,913 fumadores reportados en 2020. En 2017, la prevalencia de fumadores diarios adultos fue del 10,8%, con un 18,8% en hombres y un 2,2% en mujeres. En cuanto a la mortalidad relacionada con el tabaquismo, los datos de 2021 señalan que fumar fue responsable del 3,63% de todas las muertes en Guyana, con una proporción del 4,73% en hombres y del 2,1% en mujeres. El número absoluto de fallecimientos atribuidos al tabaco en 2021 fue de 311, de los cuales 236 correspondieron a hombres y 75 a mujeres. Estas cifras ponen de manifiesto tanto las diferencias por género en el consumo de tabaco como los importantes riesgos para la salud asociados al tabaquismo en el país.
