En Guinea-Bisáu, la prevalencia de consumo de tabaco entre adultos de 15 años o más se estimó en 7,3% en 2022, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS). Esta tasa representa una disminución respecto al 7,9% registrado en 2020. Los datos de la OMS para 2022 indican que el 0,4% de las mujeres y el 14,5% de los hombres fumaban, lo que evidencia una marcada diferencia entre géneros en los hábitos de consumo. El número de personas fumadoras en 2022 fue de aproximadamente 84.822, una ligera reducción en comparación con las 86.801 reportadas en 2020. La mortalidad atribuida al consumo de tabaco sigue siendo un motivo de preocupación en el país, con 371 muertes en 2021, lo que representa el 2,02% de todos los fallecimientos. De estas, se registraron 296 muertes entre hombres y 75 entre mujeres. Esto implica que las muertes relacionadas con el tabaquismo constituyeron el 2,88% de todos los fallecimientos masculinos y el 0,92% de los femeninos en 2021. Estas cifras reflejan los desafíos de salud pública que persisten debido al consumo de tabaco en Guinea-Bisáu, lo que requiere mantener los esfuerzos para reducir sus efectos en la salud.
