En 2017, había 61,000 fumadores diarios en Yibuti, lo que representaba una prevalencia general de consumo diario de tabaco del 9.9%, con un 18.6% en hombres y un 1.1% en mujeres. En 2021, la mortalidad atribuible al consumo de tabaco fue responsable de 493 muertes anuales, lo que equivale al 5.3% de todas las defunciones del país. De estas muertes, 408 correspondieron a hombres y 85 a mujeres, lo que representa el 7.19% y el 2.34% del total de muertes masculinas y femeninas, respectivamente. Al comparar estos datos con los de 2016, se observa una leve disminución en el porcentaje general de muertes atribuibles al tabaco, pasando del 8.94% al 5.3%. En particular, las muertes relacionadas con el tabaco en hombres disminuyeron del 10.5% al 7.19%, mientras que entre las mujeres bajaron ligeramente del 3.9% al 2.34%. Estas cifras ponen de manifiesto el desafío continuo que representa el consumo de tabaco para la salud pública en el país, y reflejan la necesidad de abordar sus impactos sanitarios.
