Los productos de tabaco calentado están regulados bajo el Reglamento de Control de Productos de Tabaco (Enmienda) 2015, en el cual fumar se define como inhalar y expulsar el humo o vapor de cualquier producto de tabaco, lo que incluye sostener o tener control sobre cualquier producto de tabaco encendido, calentado o vaporizado. Activistas por el control del tabaco han solicitado al gobierno de Putrajaya que los recambios para productos de tabaco calentado reciban el mismo trato que los productos de tabaco en cuanto a impuestos, empaquetado, advertencias sanitarias, restricciones de edad y uso en lugares públicos.
