В Вануату курение разрешено при определённых ограничениях. Продажа и покупка сигарет, включая онлайн-продажи, легальны, но приобретение через торговые автоматы запрещено. Для импорта сигарет с целью продажи требуется импортная лицензия, а импорт для личного пользования допускается с определёнными ограничениями. На упаковках сигарет обязательно должны размещаться предупреждения о вреде для здоровья, чтобы информировать курятв о связанных с курением рисках. Минимальный возраст для покупки табачных изделий, включая сигареты, составляет 18 лет. Примечательно, что, в отличие от многих стран, в Вануату отсутствуют законодательные ограничения на курение в общественных местах. Совокупный уровень налогообложения сигарет составляет 77%. По данным 2024 года, примерно 50 000 человек были действующими курятв, а распространённость курения среди взрослого населения составляла 25,3%. Среди мужчин этот показатель был 41,4%, а среди женщин — лишь 2,7%. Для сравнения, данные за 2017 год показывают, что ежедневная распространённость курения среди взрослых составляла 12,3%: 23% у мужчин и 1,7% у женщин. В том же году насчитывалось примерно 20 800 человек, которые курили ежедневно. Курение табака также способствует смертности в Вануату: по оценке 2021 года, 199 случаев смерти были связаны с курением, из них — 170 среди мужчин и 29 среди женщин. Это означает, что на долю смертей, связанных с курением, пришлось 8,85% всех случаев смерти в стране в 2021 году, включая 12,45% всех мужских и 3,29% всех женских смертей.
