Во Вьетнаме распространённость употребления табака среди людей в возрасте 15 лет и старше демонстрирует значительные показатели по состоянию на 2024 год. По оценкам, число тех, кто курит табачные изделия на данный момент, составляло примерно 15,8 миллиона человек в 2024 году. Преобладание курения среди взрослых подчёркивает ярко выраженное гендерное различие: 41,8% мужчин и лишь 0,8% женщин сообщили о том, что курят. Общий уровень распространённости курения составил 20,6%, что свидетельствует о небольшом снижении по сравнению с предыдущими годами; в 2020 году этот показатель составлял 23,8%, при этом среди мужчин — 47,3%, а среди женщин — 1,2%. Для сравнения, ежедневная распространённость курения среди взрослых в 2017 году составляла 18,7%, среди мужчин — 37,6%, среди женщин — 0,8%. Курение табака оказывает существенное влияние на уровень смертности во Вьетнаме: в 2021 году на случаи смерти, связанные с курением, пришлось 14,32% всех летальных исходов в стране. Мужчины сталкивались с гораздо более высоким риском — 21,5%, тогда как среди женщин данный показатель составлял 4,69%. Ежегодное число смертей, связанных с употреблением табака, превысило 100 000, из них 86 291 — среди мужчин и 14 050 — среди женщин. Эти данные подчёркивают серьёзную проблему для системы общественного здравоохранения и необходимость последовательных мер по снижению распространённости курения и связанных с ним негативных последствий для здоровья.
