На Тайване курение разрешено, однако существуют определённые ограничения. Продажа сигарет допускается, но их нельзя приобрести онлайн или через торговые автоматы. Импорт сигарет разрешён при наличии соответствующей импортной лицензии. На упаковке обязательно размещать предупреждения о вреде для здоровья, а минимальный возраст для покупки сигарет составляет 20 лет. Законодательных ограничений на курение в общественных местах нет. В 2020 году в Тайване насчитывалось примерно 2,7 миллиона человек, которые курят в настоящее время, а распространённость курения среди взрослых составляла 13,1%. Среди мужчин этот показатель был 23,1%, среди женщин — 2,9%. В том же году оценивается, что на курение приходилось 25,4 тысячи случаев смерти, из них 22,9 тысячи среди мужчин и 2,5 тысячи среди женщин. Это означает, что курение стало причиной 13,79% всех случаев смерти, причём среди мужчин этот показатель составил 21,26%, а среди женщин — 3,25% в стране.
