В Малави по последним данным за 2024 год нынешняя распространённость курения табака среди взрослых в возрасте 15 лет и старше составляет 6%. Этот показатель снизился по сравнению с 7,2% в 2020 году и продолжает снижаться с 11% в 2019 году. Распространённость курения среди мужчин в 2024 году заметно выше — 6%, что также ниже, чем 13,1% в 2020 году и 18,2% в 2019 году. В то же время среди женщин уровень курения значительно ниже: 1% в 2024 году по сравнению с 1,6% в 2020 году и 3,7% в 2019 году. Общее число людей, которые курят в Малави, в 2024 году оценивалось примерно в 767 000, что свидетельствует о снижении по сравнению с предыдущими годами — 751 519 курящих в 2020 году и более миллиона в 2019 году. В 2017 году ежедневная распространённость курения табака среди взрослых составляла 11%, при этом среди мужчин — 19,2%, а среди женщин — 3%. Смертность, связанная с курением, по-прежнему остаётся серьёзной проблемой для здоровья населения: в 2021 году было зафиксировано 5 419 таких случаев, что составляет 3,13% от всех смертей в стране. Эти данные подчёркивают сохраняющиеся проблемы общественного здравоохранения, связанные с курением в Малави, несмотря на отмечающееся в последние годы снижение его распространённости.
