В Казахстане курение остаётся серьёзной проблемой общественного здравоохранения. В 2024 году в стране насчитывалось примерно 2,9 миллиона взрослых, которые продолжают курить. Распространённость курения среди взрослых составляла 20%, при этом наблюдалась значительная разница между мужчинами и женщинами: 6,7% среди женщин и 34,6% среди мужчин. Смертность, связанная с курением, также остаётся высокой. В 2021 году потребление табака стало причиной, по оценкам, 15 100 смертей — из них 2 400 среди женщин и 12 700 среди мужчин. Это означает, что на курение табака пришлось 8,3% всех смертей в стране, из которых 2,83% среди женщин и 12,92% среди мужчин в тот год. Казахстан применяет ряд регулирующих мер в отношении табачных изделий. Продажа сигарет разрешена с определёнными ограничениями: реклама, продвижение и приобретение сигарет через интернет и торговые автоматы запрещены. Минимальный возраст для покупки установлен на уровне 21 года, а также имеются ограничения на курение в общественных местах. Требуется наличие предупреждений о вреде для здоровья на упаковке, а общий уровень налогообложения табачных изделий составляет 50%.
