Zgodnie z Narodową Strategią Kontroli Tytoniu na lata 2022–2030, w lutym 2024 roku w Pakistanie było około 15,6 miliona palaczy. Liczba ta oznacza spadek w porównaniu do 17,5 miliona palaczy w 2022 roku oraz 18,3 miliona w 2020 roku. Wskaźnik rozpowszechnienia palenia wśród dorosłych w 2023 roku wynosił 12,4%, co stanowi nieznaczny wzrost w porównaniu do 12% w 2022 roku, ale spadek w zestawieniu z 13,1% w 2020 roku. W 2023 roku odsetek palących mężczyzn wynosił 22,2% (spadek z 22,7% w 2020 roku), natomiast wśród kobiet odsetek ten był na poziomie 2,1% w 2023 roku, co oznacza niewielki spadek względem 2,7% w 2022 roku. Dla porównania, w 2014 roku odsetek dorosłych palących codziennie tytoń wynosił 11,5%, przy czym wśród mężczyzn było to 20,1%, a wśród kobiet 2%. W 2021 roku palenie tytoniu odpowiadało za 7,59% wszystkich zgonów w kraju, co przekłada się na 130 593 zgony związane z konsumpcją tytoniu, w tym 106 028 wśród mężczyzn i 24 565 wśród kobiet. Pomimo spadku tych wskaźników w ostatnich latach, statystyki dotyczące rozpowszechnienia palenia i śmiertelności podkreślają, że palenie tytoniu nadal stanowi poważne wyzwanie zdrowia publicznego w Pakistanie i stanowi podstawę do kształtowania rządowych strategii służących ograniczaniu negatywnego wpływu tytoniu na zdrowie.
